Planets in retrograde are not spinning backwards – it is an optical illusion as seen from Earth due to the fact that planets travel at their own respective speeds around the sun. In astrology, this illusion manifests as a “backwards” functioning of the planetary roles. Click here to learn more about retrograde.
Venus turns retrograde once every 18 months for six weeks. We last experienced Venus Retrograde over summer 2023 in the sign of Leo. Venus Rx means significant relationship changes. Unstable relationships will be tested. Venus also rules personal appearance. Physical changes like haircuts, tattoos, piercings, etc are not advised during the retrograde.
The most quintessential theme of Venus Retrograde is social malfunction. Some conversations will be awkward or uncomfortable. Unexpected delays or cancellations are also common. Through these trials and tribulations, Venus Retrograde serves as a barometer for the health of our relationship to self and others. This transit demands crystal clear communication. Although confrontation can be stressful, it is essential. If we are honest & direct, we save ourselves so much heartache.
The first month of Venus Retrograde falls in Aries and the last two weeks in Pisces. Let’s start by talking about Venus Retrograde in Aries ~ a gong of cosmic proportions reverberates throughout the Universe, the Goddess of Justice crackles in primeval flames. Aries is fervent, fearless; a hot-blooded creature of dawn and adrenaline. This is the great awakening; the beginning; the rebirth.
Venus Retrograde in Aries is paradoxical. To retrograde is to go back, yet Aries is the first constellation in the zodiac. This means we have to conduct a retrospection while Aries tries to push relationships in fiery new directions.
Fire is aggressive and does not fuck around. The impatient spring lamb stamps his little hooves. Venus Rx in Aries is ravenous, bursting with sexual energy. Aries does not think before he speaks or acts. This kind of impulsive behavior is dangerous during a time when everyone is already so on edge.
We can channel this fire into self-love, righteous action, and physical exercise. We need to be calm; tactful; considerate; and yet bold; assertive; confident. Harness Aries’ potent energy and direct it inward. Build heat in your body, rediscover your thirst for life. Revel in your strength. Remember how delicious it is to be alive. What we will work on: taming the ego; letting go of minor frustrations and disagreements; and choosing our battles wisely.
Now Venus Retrograde in Pisces: ultimate closure. Venus has already been in Pisces since January 2. During Pisces transits, insomnia is common. Pisces is the last sign in the zodiac, representing death and endings. She is soft, malleable, yielding. Her scales sparkle and stretch, dissolve, bloom again. With Venus in this constellation, one or more important relationships see a climax and resolution unfold. This proverbial death process is not easy. It can be so hurtful and confusing actually. The big question: are we staying or going?
Everything hidden must come to light, everything unspoken given words. No more evasion, no more denial. No more misinterpretation, no more silent sabotage. Hiding is deliciously tempting, but we will find ourselves in even more confusing situations if we do this. The firmer our boundaries, the more strength & power we embody during this murky transit.
There is nothing rational or logical about the Piscean death process. Venus in Retrograde Pisces swims in loops upside down, at once chasing and fleeing. However, Venus in Pisces will help us to open up and be more emotionally honest with ourselves. We must see everything to truly understand. This is the end, after all.
If Pisces is the end, what comes next? Back to Aries. Here we will awaken fully, with all of our messy relationship stuff finally wrapped up. Until then, it’s time to sink down into the mermaid cove…I’ll see you there.
Venus Retrograde often marks the end of significant relationships. This is not due to obvious incidents but rather because we finally gain the confidence to speak. It is important to act on the impulse to communicate when it arises. This urge indicates a window of divine timing.
Venus Retrograde feels like all things fated. Life unfolds as it must, regardless of attachment, regardless of whether or not we feel “ready.” Something peculiar will start to happen. You will be contacted by people you haven’t seen or talked to in years. Could be a message or a phone call, a lover or an old friend, someone with whom you once shared a profoundly intimate connection, the kind so powerful that, even when left for many years, quietly, like a letter in a yellowing envelope, comes back to life so suddenly and with such force that you fall into it all over again, willingly, helplessly, as lovers do.
If you feel it coming ~ it’s coming ~
