Super New Moon in Cancer ♋ June 23, 2017
Friday, June 23 at 7.32pm PST
Happy Super New Moon AGAIN, third one in a row! New moons can qualify as supermoons because, as stated by Richard Nolle, they may (as may any phase of the moon) occur during perigee, or when the moon is “at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.”
The moon rules Cancer – we say that she is “at home” for this phase. At the new moon station, Luna silently carves our path in perfect darkness.
The dawn of the zodiac fizzles now in midsummer heat. Are you fantasizing about starting over? Swimming strongly in Cancer’s ocean, gripped by childlike thoughts and patterns, devastatingly sensitive? You can’t turn back. It’s time to let go. Stargazers, fear not. We are children clinging to Mother’s skirt, unaware that she is leaving for only a moment, that we will be loved and nourished while she is away, so let go, let go, let go. Let go, no matter what you’ve been told, no matter how frightening the thought of letting go may be.
Cancer is very familiar to me. During this cycle I get ripped open as I’m led to the very core of my being. We’re all here together. There’s something magical about this tidal journey. Permeating every pool is a powerful resonance, a low song for the weary and the tender.
This new moon is a settling, riveting force. If you’re not happy, you’ve got to move. Vacate the premises, quit your miserable job, leave your not-so-perfect lover, whatever. Of course change can be made whenever, but the longer we wait to make necessary change, the more complicated life becomes. You will know when all is right if your heart feels lighter. Do not ignore your internal voices – ever!
A flood is rising inside, and though she threatens to wash you away, I know you can withstand the pain. She comes and leaves slowly, thrashing and moaning. We die inside of her, then emerge reborn. This is at once a sweet beginning and a tearful goodbye. What we are moving toward is infinitely brighter than whatever we may leave behind…
When the moon is in a water constellation such as Cancer, it is the right time to plant and eat dark leafy greens and water your plants. Cancer rules the digestive system in the body. When the moon is in this constellation our body assimilates nutrients more effectively. Treat your tummy well and stay away from refined sugars, meat, dairy and fried food. Never use chemical fertilizers in your garden or eat – to the best of your knowledge and financial ability – food that has been treated with chemical fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides. Massage with essential oils is highly recommended for the entire week following the super new moon.
June 25 – 27: Moon in Leo
This is a good time to eat, harvest and preserve fruits. Weed your garden on these days. Also a fortuitous time to cut your hair.
June 28 – 29: Moon in Virgo
This is a good time to eat, harvest and preserve roots. In the garden, focus on sowing and transplanting. Spend time outside near plants and trees. These days are also auspicious for a haircut.
June 30: Moon enters Libra, marking the end of the new moon period and beginning of the quarter moon station.
This super new moon will be conjunct (within 10 degrees of) Mercury. Feed your soul with Cancer Yoga. To ascertain your personal Moon sign, click here.
