Solar Eclipse in Cancer ♋ July 2, 2019
Tuesday, July 2 at 12:17pm PST
Happy new moon and happy solar eclipse!! Eclipses represent rebirth and the dawning of a new age. They take us from light to darkness back to light again. They suggest, by virtue of their potency, a radical shift. Something is subsumed, transmuted. This is all happening in Cancer, the constellation ruled by the moon herself. The moon initially moves into Cancer one day before, on the 1st of July. Luna silently carves our path in perfect darkness, sizzling in midsummer heat. This eclipse is total but will only be visible to viewers in Chile and Argentina – friends from South America, enjoy!
An eclipse never comes alone. A solar eclipse always arrives two weeks before or after a lunar eclipse. Indeed, two weeks after our lovely Cancerian eclipse, we’ll have a full moon lunar eclipse in Capricorn.
The new moon solar eclipse in Cancer directs our attention towards emotional and domestic security. Do you feel at home, wherever you are now? And do you feel supported? Cancer does not just surround herself with friends – she needs family, or friends who feel like family. She is the constellation of motherhood, tending to the next generation. She is also the constellation of divine feminine power, regulating our moon cycles and delving deep into our hearts. This is a time of increased sensitivity and we should not dismiss our feelings. The reason Cancerian energy/womyn are (generally) more sensitive is because we receive information through our intuition – and if we do not allow ourselves to feel, then we effectively shut off the valve and the information stops flowing. Society has conditioned us to believe that we are weak or ridiculous for feeling – this is bullshit. Sit with your emotions and notice if/when you are inhibiting your feelings or expression of your feelings, especially in the company of others. And to the men who are in touch with yourselves – thank you. No peace or union is real or complete without you. It is time for ALL of us to embody the most authentic version of ourselves. It is time for ALL of us to express ourselves without fear or hesitation.
This journey through the tides is undeniably magical. In every pool a sonorous resonance, a low song for the weary and the tender. Are you fantasizing about starting over? Swimming in Cancer’s ocean, absorbing vibrations from every place and person you meet? It’s time to let go. Stargazers, fear not, just let go, let go, let go. Let go, no matter what you’ve been told, no matter how frightening the thought of letting go may be.
This eclipse is a settling, riveting force. If you’re not happy, make a change. Vacate the premises, quit your miserable job, leave your not-so-perfect lover, whatever. We can make change whenever, of course, but the longer we wait, the more complicated life becomes; new moon solar eclipses are the perfect time to begin again. You will know you are moving in the right direction if your heart feels lighter. Do not ignore your intuition!
See sun and moon together. Incubate fire and water, fan their alchemical destiny. See the moon swallow the sun whole, see the wild woman reclaim her throne. Welcome this vision of the new earth. A flood is rising, and though it threatens to wash us away, we will ride it out. The moon comes thrashing and moaning in tidal waves of love. We die inside of her and rise, reborn, with the certainty that whatever comes next is more glorious than whatever we leave behind.
When the moon is in Cancer, it is a good time to plant and eat dark leafy greens. Cancer rules the digestive system in the body. Under her influence, our bodies crave fresh, nutritious food. The moon enters Leo on July 3, the day after the eclipse. Just before midnight on July 7, the moon enters Libra, marking the end of the new moon period and beginning of the quarter moon station.
