The August new moon falls in the constellation of the fiery lion. Leo speaks to our identity and sense of Self. This archetype favors expression, creation, emotion, dance, art, music – all of the beautiful, exciting ways in which we reveal our inner selves and communicate to the world, this is who I am.

The message is clear at this new moon: you’ve got to love y o u r s e l f

& surround yourself with people who make you feel good, people who LOVE you.

When creative expression is blocked, or reduced to a trickle, as we see in the writer with notebooks full of empty pages, or the artist who wringing her hands in despair, pacing around the studio late morning, we know some aspect of Leo is blocked. A block on creativity is not to be taken lightly. Paradoxically it must also be treated with extreme care as the frightened inner child is almost always found tightly wound around the creative Self, cutting off its vital air supply.

Often Leo forces us to confront a powerful anger (read: fear) within ourselves as part of this process. When we become enraged and project everything onto others, it’s clear that we haven’t worked through something.

New moons are new beginnings. We can work through it now. Not all of it, but some of it. The New Moon in Leo is a deep dive to the origins of our strongest emotional responses. Instead of adding layers of guilt and shame, instead of feeling like shit about ourselves and wildly pointing out all of our perceived flaws, we’re going to turn towards the pain with an understanding, listening ear. That is the singular way to unlock the unicorn of creativity without scaring her away, deeper into the forest of Untold Pain.

The process of healing ourselves is so nuanced and individual. It is unique to who you are and it can be as private or public as you like. And it’s definitely not a story of immediate progress, though this is hard to admit in a society obsessed with instant gratification.

Don’t beat yourself up if the modalities are not helping, even modalities like astrology which are so wonderful and helpful. Only you know yourself completely and only you can unlock your personal pathways to healing. No blog or coach or crystal is ever going to do that for you.

Be kind, gentle, and patient with yourself, babez. The journey of self-love begins quietly beneath the darkness of this invisible flaming moon. Do whatever you need to feel good and comfortable and natural.

Mixed news: the new moon herself forms a fabulous sextile to Jupiter in Gemini, which means all roads DO lead to the rainbow, and Venus is stepping into Virgo that evening to give Leo Season some grounding, BUT Mercury Retrograde also begins this evening, so expect some dysfunction.
