Neptune in Aries ♆ 2025-2039

Since April 2011, Neptune has been swimming in her home constellation of Pisces. Fourteen years later we are finally wrapping up this transit. Neptune transitions now to Aries for the first time since the 19th century. Neptune’s last transit in Aries began in 1861, coinciding exactly with the American Civil War. Though Neptune will spend a few final months in Pisces during two retrograde stints, this shy mermaid will have to find a way to call Aries, fiery first sign in the zodiac, her new home.
To understand where we are now and why life feels so depressing and confusing, we need to understand Neptune and her counterpart Pisces, the last constellation in the zodiac. Pisces endings are not like a sunset at the end of a day. Pisces endings are cosmic, like a bloated star, imploding spectacularly. Neptune in Pisces dances before death and chaos, her veils slowly falling to reveal a glimpse of the point in which all things end and begin again.
Do you remember 2012 and the insane spiritual hype? Do you remember the way yoga and meditation skyrocketed in popularity (again)? And do you remember how these wellness/mindfulness practices were immediately appropriated? Beautiful practices and ideas from other cultures were taken greedily. New names and iterations appeared. Yoga studios opened overnight. Everyone was suddenly a guru. This hasty process, rather than actually educating people, just devolved into sloppy spiritual bypassing and online cults.
Without real grounding or substance, Neptune in Pisces manifested as one giant collective existential crisis. Pisces blurred the lines until they no longer existed. Sometimes this was exactly what we needed. Marijuana and psilocybin were legalized in many countries. Queer and trans brothers and sisters fought for greater respect and visibility. Extra-terrestrial themes in music and pop culture elevated our perception of what is possible. Virtual reality, artificial intelligence, opioid addiction, mass manipulation via the media, and deceptive political agendas are much, much more problematic.
This intentional effort to deceive and manipulate the masses was extremely successful, especially with the help of technology, hypnotizing the human spirit until we can no longer think for ourselves. My friends, we are weaker than we have ever been. We are lonely and anxious and isolated from one another. This is by design. We are easier to control when we are stuck, or when we choose regressive, self-destructive behaviors. In this frightening upside down world, toxicity glitters in eerie light, seducing us into unhealthy relationships. Addictions rule every waking moment. We don’t want to know more, we want to know less. We want to lay down and dissociate and let the years pass. The chaotic, swirling death dance of Pisces settles in our veins and we close our eyes and just let go…
The dream is ending quickly now and the moment to rise is near. Nothing is lost, my friends. These last 14 years were not just one long state of dissociation, they were also a retrospection on our hopes and beliefs. From inside these waters, we yearned to express ourselves and all the many, many things that we felt. We created new language to name our feelings. We went to therapy. We found our way back to artistry. This transit was like being woven into a cocoon. It happened so deftly and slowly that we didn’t realize what was taking place until we were already deep inside.
But the cocoon does not stay forever a cocoon.
What will happen when Neptune cracks the door into Aries? I can see it already, brilliant fresh light streaming in like a fiery banner, stoking the base of the spine with pure adrenaline. Neptune will not enter quietly, nor will Aries receive her calmly. There is a very real possibility for increased war and violence, especially next year when Saturn and Neptune meet for a conjunction at 0 degrees Aries.
We cannot ignore the sudden appearance of unbridled fire, threatening to burn us just like the wildfires we contend with in modern times. Aries is extremely impulsive and impossible to control. As this energy passes through each human, we will feel it to varying degrees. Some of us will feel it in the form of righteous anger. We will suddenly feel motivated, awake, enthusiastic. Others will act before thinking, hungry for the blood that Aries craves.
In the same way that we had to learn how to navigate the whirlpool oceans of Neptune in Pisces, we will have to learn how to surf cascading lava flows without burning ourselves or others. The secret to incorporating the insatiable fire of Aries is always, always, always in the body. This will be the key that saves us. Rather than bodily harm, we must call on bodily strength. Exercise, sports, and performance will be our healthy outlets. Physical modalities will present themselves as the necessary alternative to simply exploding with rage.
Having said this, it has become very clear, after a 14-year introspection, that we can no longer just lie down and fucking take it. Some things must be fought for. Some things must be risked or sacrificed. Guess what, motherfuckers? We’re not sleeping anymore. We are awake now and looking you right in the eye, and we are ready to defend our brothers and sisters if we need to. Where the haze and muddle of Pisces once clouded our vision and sucked us down into endless coves of despair, the indignant blaze of Aries illuminates us from the inside out. With sockets aflame, a cry suddenly leaps from our chest, a cry so feral and powerful that it would make us weep if we were not so strong and confident and poised to take back our power.
