Mercury in Sagittarius ☿ 2022

When we look up at the sky and divide it into 360 degrees, we see that Mercury is never more than 45 degrees from the sun. These planets stay clustered together from our perspective on earth because Mercury is much closer to the sun. This is true also of Venus. Astrologically speaking, this means that these planets work in tandem. Along with the moon, they make up the sacred trinity of the heart (Venus & the moon), mind (Mercury), and ego/self (Sun). Mercury lives in the throat chakra, ruling our thoughts and communication.
With Mercury in Scorpio now, we are deep in the fearful mind where trust runs scarce. We are desperate to hold on but quickly learning that we must give in. Mercury in Scorpio brings all that has been repressed to the surface. Though we do not understand the scorpion at first, her results are clear. Long fingers slip eerily over the trees beneath the moonlight, only to land in our hand. This transit renders proverbial death of that which must die. Mercury in Scorpio is a broom on the threshold, shuffling stifled energy out across the tongue. This is an emotionally-charged cycle which takes us to the past to heal old wounds.
Mercury in Sagittarius takes us on a completely different journey. What is unique about Sagittarian fire is the way it unfolds like an epic quest. The fire of Aries, for example, is more impulsive, moving for the sake of moving. Sagittarius, as the last fire in the trilogy, is the most refined, representing the fire of spiritual and moral curiosity.
I think it is the seeking, wondering-wandering, ever-expanding nature of Sagittarius which provides so much heat. Balanced Sagittarius is assertive, blunt, and honest. His highest aspiration is truth, real Truth. Being a truth-teller means saying something when everyone else is silent. It means being an ally, a whistleblower, a dissenter. It is embodied authenticity.
This transit is going to feel like FLYING into the future, playing catch up, trying to cram in as much as possible. But when we feel the impulse to rush, we need to watch for a few trademark Sagittarian things, like promising more than we can deliver or getting our hopes up too high. Yes, we’ll have energy and enthusiasm, but we need to temper it with wisdom. Communication gets interesting in Sagittarius because less thought is given to our words. We need to be careful about word choice and timing. Ask yourself: are these the right words AND is this the right time to say them?
This cycle is most favorable for people with natal planets in Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius, and Aries.
Nov 21: Mercury conjunct Venus in Sagittarius. Harmony in relationships and communication. Cozy and loving. Gold star day.
Nov 22: Sagittarius Season begins!
Nov 29: Mercury opposite Mars Retrograde in Gemini. Physical pain, moving too fast, quick to anger – all common when Mars is opposed. Think Aries martial fire, fully ignited.
Dec 1: Mercury square slippery Neptune Retrograde in Pisces. Fatigue, mental fog, headaches – all common when Neptune is aspected in a square.
Dec 5: Mercury square Jupiter in Pisces. Strange happenings, think mini Mercury Retrograde moment.
