Mercury rules travel, communication, and the mind. With magical caduceus in hand, soothsayer Mercury leads newly departed souls from the lower to the upper worlds. And now Mercury in Capricorn will lead us straight through the dark night into the New Year! Happy 2025!

Congrats earthlings, we made it through another Mercury Retrograde cycle, all falling in Sagittarius since the beginning of November. Sagittarius, as the last fire in the trilogy, is the most refined, representing the fire of spiritual and moral curiosity. I think it is the seeking, wondering-wandering, ever-expanding nature of Sagittarius which provides so much heat. We were so curious to know the truth, to be better, to explore, that we had to be assertive and make change. We need everything illuminated so we can see it all.

What comes next is the solid earth of Capricorn. Mercury in Capricorn encourages us to be practical and economical. Those born with Mercury in Capricorn are succinct communicators. Capricorn clarifies our psychological relationship to work, money and, more broadly, how we structure and stabilize our lives. When I say clarify, what I should really say is that Capricorn applies massive pressure. The archetype of Capricorn tends to be rigid and prone to perfectionism. 

When I visualize Capricorn, I feel strain. The goat restricts life with unattainable, self-imposed standards. If you observe closely, you will see the deeply emotional, watery nature of Capricorn hidden beneath this earthy crust. Ruled by Saturn, the most serious planet in the solar system, Capricorn wrestles with concepts of freedom, especially inner freedom. The goat sets extremely high standards for Self and others. It is hard for him to lighten up and tune out the inner critic. One way to enjoy this transit is to defend yourself against perfectionistic tendencies. It’s ok to relax. Please relax.

Capricorn is a creature of great wisdom and deliberation. So deliberate, in fact, that we may struggle to initiate communication at this time. Reflect on communication blockages, especially in your financial or professional life. I recommend collaboration with friends from work or school.
