Mercury in Aquarius ☿ 2025
Jan 27 – Feb 14, 2025
As I write, we are nearing the end of Capricorn Season. I am grateful to Capricorn for knocking sense into us during these nonsensical times. Mercury in Capricorn is like a deep breath which clears the mind. And then, by working and staying busy, priorities emerge. It feels good to be in motion, to do something purposeful. It boosts our self-image and conception of ourselves as contributing members to society. We all need to feel that our actions are worthwhile.
With Mercury now entering air sign Aquarius, the mind shifts from clear, pragmatic mode to creative, expansive, energetic mode. Aquarius is bold, authentic, and informed. Aquarius represents all that is unexpected. For this reason Aquarius Season tends to be quite bumpy. But here’s the thing: the purpose of Aquarius’ sharp turns and surprises is so that we may detach.
Aquarius is paradoxical in the most fantastic way. He is at once master of detachment and the supreme connector of people, ideas, & creativity. Just look at David Lynch and the utter magnificence of his life and work. His legacy demonstrates very clearly the Aquarian objective to balance scientific, analytical understanding with intuition and unconditional love.
More Aquarian paradoxes: highly analytical & rational yet a risk-taker; exceptionally tolerant yet unbreakably stubborn; radical & open-minded yet impatient and judgmental. Aquarians are fun, intelligent, and eager to share their thoughts. They can also detach emotionally at a moment’s notice. We have to remember that Aquarius comes from a wintry kingdom of ice. Aquarian warmth is not like Taurean or Cancerian warmth. His warmth is created in conversation and social connection. It is aroused spontaneously, in the moment, as well as in the expansion of the mind through meditation.
Aquarius scoffs at authority. The root of this indifference – or hatred, at times – is knowing that no authority figure will ever change the world. We the people are going to change consciousness. That change starts at the most humble level: inside our own minds, in the garden of our thoughts.
Are you brave enough to follow Aquarius out into the starry night, so far from the main thoroughfare? If so, let go now of all expectations and attachments. Prepare to encounter your true Self.
In Native American astrology, Aquarius is associated with the otter, the quaking aspen, and silver. If you are feeling stuck, meditate on the playful otter. Meditate on the sheen of aspen leaves, hear them rustle in the winter wind. See quicksilver clouds racing across the sky.
Every constellation is a preparation for the next. Aquarian lessons prepare us for Pisces. The water bearer’s electric winds create empty space for the bottomless ocean of the fishes. Soon the left brain intellect will give way to a magnificent, nebulous swirl of right brain spirituality and creation.
Jan 29: Mercury conjunct Pluto in Aquarius + New Moon in Aquarius / Chinese New Year – Year of the Wood Snake. Expect the unexpected! Change on change on change, babies. Extremely dynamic day. Restless energy, insomnia.
Feb 3: Mercury trine Jupiter Retrograde in Gemini. High energy. The day will absolutely fly by. Excellent time to travel.
Feb 9: Mercury conjunct Sun in Aquarius + Mars Retrograde in Cancer trine Saturn in Pisces. Gold star day, very productive and organized. Saturn provides structure and drive.
Feb 10: Mercury square Uranus in Taurus. Take precautions against headaches and nightmares. Get lots of rest; avoid screens.
