Planets in retrograde are not moving backwards – it is entirely an optical illusion as seen from Earth. Click here to learn more about retrograde motion.
Jupiter turns retrograde for 4 months each year. This year Jupiter Retrograde will fall in two constellations. The retrograde begins in Pisces, then takes us back to Aquarius. Jupiter just entered Pisces a few days ago on May 13.
And now the retrograde, where we go back and revisit lessons from late March until now. This is a journey of personal, inward growth. Normally Jupiter operates on a large scale, guiding the arc of shared human destiny. During the retrograde, we reach instead for the highest version of ourselves. Retrogrades are introspective periods.
Let’s start by talking about Jupiter Retrograde in Pisces. We’re really just getting a tiny taste of it. We won’t see or understand the full picture until May 2022 when Jupiter has broken through to fiery Aries.
Pisces speaks to our emotions and creative expression. She wants us to open up and be free. Jupiter Retrograde in Pisces is a subtle voyage. It’s not something we will feel or notice on a conscious level. There will be many moments of uncertainty and confusion. The mind clouds over when we try to think about our future or direction in life. The essence of Pisces is ephemeral, elusive. At times we are taken to new spiritual heights. We feel that we have cracked a cosmic code and our lives will never be the same. And then there are days that make us ask wtf we are doing.
Pisces is associated with music, dance, altered states of consciousness, surrender, fate, and death, to name a few. It is up to the strength of each individual to channel this nebulous water for the highest good. We can use this time for piercing moral inquiry. We can ascend to new levels of honesty with ourselves. Or we can let this tsunami slowly sweep us away . . .
2021 will see a huge increase in the use of mind-altering substances, including disinformation campaigns. People are yearning for meaning and purpose in a way that we haven’t seen since the strange, exhilarating aura of 2012. We are asking ourselves big questions about who we are and who we want to be.
Change is inevitable in the realm of Pisces, but it is not abrupt or abrasive. It is like a strong and steady tug from the seat of the soul. It is a longing for home, a surrender to what we know to be true. It is as old and profound as the wisdom of the salmon, returning to the waters of their birth. Heed only your intuition, pulsating like cerulean beads of light deep inside you. There is no such thing as a logical, linear unfolding with Jupiter Retrograde in Pisces. Do not try to analyze or understand it. Just let it flow. The more you surrender, the easier it will be.
And now Jupiter Retrograde in Aquarius, where most of the cycle takes place. The nature of Aquarius is totally unpredictable and unexpected. Do not expect anything to go according to plan. Together Jupiter & Saturn in Aquarius have forced us to think on our feet and move forward with quickly changing technology.
Unlike Pisces, the retrograde in Aquarius comes in sudden twists and turns. Internally, we will be led to places we’ve never been before. It’s time to be the change. It’s time to unlock the inner rebel. We cannot wait any longer. Lives depend on it.
Aquarius is associated with science, technology, genetics, astronomy, social media, social justice – all things which are progressive and move humanity forward. We’ve already gotten a taste of this as we spend exponentially more time on screens, connecting with one another on digital platforms instead of in person. We are doing what we have to do to survive these times.
Jupiter in Aquarius has revived the heartbeat of humanity. During the retrograde this continues in its own odd, quirky way. Aquarius gathers everyone into his electric ice palace for the wildest party of the century. But now instead of communing with one another, we are asked to sink into communion with ourselves.
All of this will culminate with a once-in-12-years conjunction to Neptune in Pisces on Apr 12, 2022. It’s a long way out and I know I’ll have more intuitive insight as it approaches, but for now I’ll just say this is a very good sign for humanity. Not everyone will get the message. Pisces is like that. Only those who are listening can hear her. The rest get left behind in some swirling whirlpool of illusions, some glittering house of mirrors. But I know you’ll hear her.
