Jupiter in Capricorn ♃ 2019-2020
Dec 2, 2019 – Dec 19, 2020
Jupiter profoundly influences human life from year to year. It takes 12 years for Jupiter to circle the Sun; twelve constellations in twelve years = one full year per constellation. This upcoming year Jupiter will spin through earthen Capricorn.
Since Nov 8, 2018, Jupiter has been at home in Sagittarius. 2019 expanded the spirit by taking us to faraway places (internally and externally); it was also a year of hard lessons. Life was a blur. Events unfolded with such speed that it felt impossible to get anything in focus – and we see this in the global/political sphere – I mean, wtf is going on? I don’t believe the news anymore. Anyway, with life moving this quickly, we have to think and act on the fly, guided by strong intuition. The Sagittarian impulse is to just go for it, do it – and most of the time this works out really well. However, if you look back on some of the low moments of 2019, you might find that overly optimistic thinking led you down the wrong path. Did you ignore an inner voice begging you to slow down and give it another thought? I did – again. It was very easy to get carried away. Jupiter in Sagittarius took us to new, unfamiliar places. We dashed into the unknown, rocketing through time and space. But we had to stand up for ourselves and what we believe in; we had to maintain our sense of self-worth and justice. We had to say yes only when it was time to say yes, when we felt in our marrow that it was right.
Now Jupiter in Capricorn. Think back to mid December 2007 – early Jan 2009. Think about what was going on in your life at this time, for the same themes are about to come rushing back. This next year provides an opportunity to expand upon these themes and continue working on whatever was left unfinished at that time.
Think about the qualities of fire (Sagittarius): fire is unpredictable; moves quickly; acts without thinking; and fire adds heat and color and combustion to our life. The qualities of Capricorn are so different from Sagittarius. As an earth element, Capricorn embodies all that is solid, dependable and life-giving. Jupiter in Sagittarius lifted us into the sky, out of our comfort zones, so that we could free-fall through the clouds and watch normal life inch by below; Capricorn takes us right back down to the ground and reminds us of all the work we still have yet to do here.
This is an excellent year to stay put, get rooted and dig in to your long-term goals. If you have been meaning to apply for a new job or go back to school – do it. It is time to build our foundation and make concrete plans for our professional success. I know that sounds boring, but it doesn’t have to be. There are beautiful opportunities awaiting – a very stable, loving partner might come your way, for example. Ultimately Jupiter in Capricorn will show us the joy of security and how we can create comfort and abundance in our terrestrial life.
Capricorn is associated with structured environments like universities, governments, businesses, etc. You may be interacting or working with these kinds of institutions more often next year. As you come into contact with these institutions and the people who keep them running, you will inevitably be inspired to work harder and with greater intelligence. What we learn from Capricorn is that we can always be more invested in our work. It will not be enough to simply work to make money. We need to look many years into the future, see ourselves working with great passion and purpose, and then decide exactly what we need to do in order to achieve this vision.
Think very carefully about your future. No one gets to decide your fate but you. Ask yourself whether the wishes of your family, or perhaps your friends or coworkers, are influencing your decision-making. What do you want? Where do you want to be? Now is the time to plant proverbial seeds, but they cannot be planted mindlessly. Though Capricorn can be quite a conventional creature, that doesn’t mean that we have to be conventional also. We can plan for something radical or unorthodox. We don’t have to follow the prescribed trajectory. We don’t have to do what everyone else is doing!
There are many exciting dates coming – let’s start at the beginning. On Dec 15, Jupiter trines Uranus Retrograde in Taurus. I suspect that this will involve travel – new places, new people, something new and exciting. This is the perfect opportunity to take a new approach or change your attitude; this is what Uranian influence encourages us to do. You may find yourself in unusual circumstances, but this is so conducive for change – a funny thing happens when we wind up in situations we never could have foreseen; the psyche spontaneously reorders itself and we remember that we can change how we feel about something at any moment. Harness this energy by getting together with others and discussing changes you want to see in the world and in yourselves.
What you will discover about transits between outer planets such as these, however, is that their effects play out over a longer period of time, not one day. The progressive, creative energy of this trine might not show up until months later. What we can do in the mean time is stay open to new ideas, new ways of living, and new ways of interacting with others. This transit is meant to be uplifting and paradigm-shifting.
And now for the juicy stuff: on Apr 4, 2020, June 29, 2020 and once more on Nov 12, 2020 Jupiter will be conjunct (at the same degree as) Pluto in Capricorn. All of the deep work that Pluto has been performing in Capricorn since 2008 will now receive an infusion of felicity from Jupiter the benefic; that means it’s time to collaborate on our goals and really go out on a limb together. Jupiter helps us grow and expand exponentially, and in Capricorn, the site of growth is primarily professional. Paradoxically, though we will be working together to better the world at large, our drive and motivation will come from personal ambition; however, the root of this ambition is self-improvement on a profound level. Prepare to receive gifts or advances offered by those in positions of authority. We’ll be feeling so powerful and supported that we’ll be able to effortlessly recruit others to our cause. We will solve long-standing problems, as well as uncover resources which may have been previously ignored or forgotten. This conjunction brings together materials, people and beliefs to hone systems that are already in place; these systems may include finance, education, grants, taxes, business and law. Get ready to spend more time, energy and money on your greatest passion!
