Autumn is coming! Welcome to Virgo Season and the full moon in Pisces, the peak of the Virgo cycle. The September full moon is called the Corn Moon or Barley Moon ~ Moonrise at sunset, peak at midnight, moonset at sunrise all over the world ~
Sun and moon oppose one another in Virgo and Pisces: finite reality vs infinite ether. The Full Moon in Pisces releases the spirit. A true release of the spirit is a totally conscious moment. I do believe that certain altered states deliver us to higher consciousness. However, the most powerful and effective way to raise our consciousness is through meditation and fearless moral inventory.
We are in Virgo’s domain now, reflecting on work, service, and health. The Full Moon in Pisces comes in like a hazy wave, muddling our crystal vision. Pisces is endlessly ensorcelled by mirages, fantasies, tricks. She clouds the mind, casting out all logic and pragmatism.
I would like to call in the highest vibration of Pisces: authentic yet imaginative; grounded yet spiritual; clearheaded yet dreamy. She can be all of these things and more. As the last sign in the zodiac, she is an amalgamation of all. She can shape-shift into any archetype she pleases.
Here we are, one foot on Virgo’s green earth and the other quickly turning translucent, pulled by an unseen force to the farthest narwhal star in the universe. What is the connection between earth and sky, between mundane and extraordinary?
Virgo stays close to the soil, busy with her schedules and tasks. Pisces glides through bottomless REM cycles. Her fantasies take her so far away that when she is suddenly jolted back to reality, she would rather die than confront what she has created. Pisces yearns to leave this world and live forever in Neptunian utopia, her otherworldly homeland where neither time nor space exist.
Several years ago I spent this full moon with three other women. We swallowed the diamond sky and slithered naked like mermaids between the boulders of the Yuba River, dazzled by the sun. I laughed until I cried. I sang. I sat high on a bridge above the rocks. I walked barefoot and reveled in it all.
Be prepared for big changes in your personal, emotional life. This is especially true for people with sun/moon/rising in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces.
sleep ~ dreams ~ consciousness ~ spirituality ~ sacred darkness ~ resolution
Last year’s Full Moon in Pisces was insanely busy and chaotic. This year we can expect more of the same with Mercury Retrograde beginning the day before. I also need to mention that the moon herself will be forming a sextile to Uranus Retrograde in Taurus and the Virgo sun forms its own trine to this planet, exact the next day. Uranus is the planet of unexpected events so we need – once again – to be prepared for lots of last-minute changes.
Too much Virgo makes us feel mechanical; this is dangerous in a world starved for spiritual water. Let your dreams ooze out beneath the moonlight. Focus on the sacral chakra in meditation to boost your creativity. Rest your body with Pisces Yoga. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
