Happy full moon! The January full moon is called the Wolf Moon 🐺 ~ The moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight and set at sunrise in all time zones ~
The full moon during Aquarius season each year is always in Leo, as this is the constellation opposite Aquarius. The full moon in Leo is an examination of the Leo–Aquarius axis and all of the ways in which these archetypes complement – and antagonize! – one another.
Leo is a relaxed yet raging fire; Aquarius a mighty castle of ice and wind. When these two come together at the full moon, we receive a download of wisdom and empowerment. Let’s destroy old psychological boundaries and allow new progressive paradigms to emerge.
The Full Moon in Leo teaches us to roll with the punches and expect the unexpected, as is always the case in Aquarius’ domain. The key to surviving this electrical storm? Connect with friends and community. Also: detach from your desired outcome. Completely.
It is an understatement to say that no one knows what will happen. Something is brewing at this full moon, something potent and explosive, something utterly unpredictable. But just because the outcome won’t be ideal, i.e. what we’d hoped for, doesn’t mean it is categorically wrong or bad. Whatever happens is nothing more than the result of what has come before. Said another way: it is a natural consequence; a logical conclusion to an equation we have yet to understand.
At this full moon a couple years ago, I found myself in the middle of the woods in northern California, swimming in another dimension. It was the final night of a days-long Native American Church meeting. I left the windows of the little cabin open so I could hear the drums outside, thundering from an enormous tipi. The drum beat impossibly quickly, like a stag galloping between the trees. The silhouettes of 40 people flickered with profound mystery upon the deer hide canvas. Sparks from the enormous bonfire inside spouted from the top of the tipi, drifting ecstatically into the sky.
I prayed with all of my being and dove deep into my body. I saw without seeing. The crippling pain I normally experience with my autoimmune disease did not come. I traveled instead to a state of psychic openness where I was free to explore my body and mind’s eye without pain.
Many things are possible at this full moon.
Some possibilities are less glamorous. We may feel clear and motivated yet uncertain. Leo makes us feel at home in ourselves: confident and full, centered right in the heart. But Aquarius is something very different. He was made for other things, like unsettling the spirit and inciting change. This tension, between the fire of Leo and the ice of Aquarius, draws us in and out, back and forth, between conviction and displacement, between knowing and questioning.

Heads up: this full moon forms a sharp square to Jupiter in Taurus. This means, first and foremost, that we need to manage expectations and not get our hopes up too high for anything. Disappointment will surely follow.
Psychic and physical energy increase significantly at every full moon. This is felt not just the day of, but for days before and after. Emotions and intuition will be heightened. Release tension with Leo Yoga. Travel up to the third eye for meditation. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
