The first and last full moons of 2023, both in Cancer! The December full moon is called the Cold Moon. The moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight, and set at sunrise in all time zones.

Moon and sun hover between Cancer and Capricorn. These archetypes are all about putting down roots and getting settled in life. They gravitate toward relationships and environments which promise longevity and security (Capricorn) as well as the space and emotional safety required for true vulnerability and acceptance (Cancer). This full moon brings greater intimacy and understanding to our closest relationships. It’s a great time to spend at home with family or loved ones.

Luna is right at home in Cancer, the constellation she rules. The crab and the moon are associated with femininity, matrilineal lines, family, and homeland. This full moon is about what makes us feel at home. It’s about (self) love and commitment (to self).

Capricorn Season is designed to help us cultivate discipline, focus, and clarity. The Cancer-Capricorn polarity unites the heart and the logical, planning brain. Too much Capricorn makes us anxious about the future as well as our performance in the theater of society; too much Cancer makes us fearful and clingy. Focus on release and letting go. Only a calm, peaceful heart may proceed. Watch for mood swings anyway – Cancer’s affirmation is “I feel”!

The full moon is very, very well-positioned this year with a supportive trine to Saturn in Pisces. Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, offers an energy which is grounding and stabilizing. This bodes well for all things financial and/or professional as well.

However! Mercury will still be retrograde at this time and later in the day we have a square between Mercury Rx in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces. This one is really slow and sleepy. Rest is in order.
